What is Astrophotography
Astrophotography is simply “taking a photograph of an object in space”, whether it’s with a point-and-shoot camera, the Hubble Space Telescope or any other type of camera. The subject matter can include anything from the moon to the Milky Way.
If you are interested to try Astrophotography you will need a camera such as a DSLR or a Mirrorless camera, a lens with a wide aperture to let in as much light as possible and a sturdy tripod. The camera I currently use is a Canon EOS R5, paired with a Canon RF 15-35mm f/2.8L lens. To capture the Milky Way the best time of night would be between 9:30 pm to 3:30 am. The sky needs to be void of moonlight & light pollution.
The Milky Way photo on the left was taken in Zion Canyon, Utah, the Milky Way photo in the middle and the photo to the right which is a Star Trails image were taken in Joshua Tree National Park, California. The reason there is so much light in the Star Trails photo is because a car was leaving the park and my camera happened to capture the image with light from headlights passing, if you look at the Joshua Tree to the right you can see it is red from the taillights of the passing vehicle
